Suburban boys’ baseball, accompanied by a new coaching staff, retake the field after a strenuous off-season preparing to take on the new competition in their new division.

Suburban ended their final season in Division II last year with a record of 8-8 and plans to enter their new division, and new season, stronger than ever. Senior leader on the team, Ben Igo, is proud of all the hard work his teammates have put in during the off season. “I did basketball over the winter season, but I know the boys had practice at least twice a week and we had a great turnout” he said.

The team has had a change in their overall game plan for the season due to new coaches and a new coaching strategy. Senior Jacob Wolf believes the change in coaching will really help them adjust to the division shift. “The coaches are from bigger teams and will hopefully help us out. The increase of freshmen in the high school  qualified us to be be moved up a Division I team so we can compete with bigger schools”.

All of their hard work was put to the test on Friday, March 24 during the boy’s season opening game against Red Lion at home. The boys played very well and kept the game close for the first three innings, then tied it up by the fourth inning. Red Lion pulled ahead by the sixth inning and won the game; Red Lion 5, York Suburban 2.

On March 30, the boys team faced New Oxford, pulling ahead and testing their strength, coming out with a 6-4 win.
