Elective Choices

Here at YSHS, students are able to choose which electives that they are interested in or try ones that they are interested in. There are many electives to choose from, for example, some are categorized in art, music, world language, family and consumer science and others.

In art, someone might want to do drawing or painting. In music, there is orchestra, band, and choir. In world language there is Spanish, French, and German. Most students have reasons why they chose the electives that they want to do.

A freshman, Sarah Hartinger chose child development, orchestra, and Spanish. Hartinger explained why she chose those electives, “I want to go into a teaching field or do something related to children. I love music so I continue to do orchestra. I want to become fluent in Spanish so I can use it in my everyday life.”

Sammy Rodas, a freshman,  chose the electives oral communication and for next year he chose web page design. Rodas explained, “I chose oral communication because I felt that I could learn more about public speaking and I chose web page design so I can learn to be better with computers.” A freshman, Abbey Probert, chose ceramics. She explains why she wanted to do ceramics, “I wanted to do something with art. I thought it would be interesting to do something involving art because I had never done anything like it before.” Some students are choosing the electives because they want to try something new.

Freshman, Aly Golden, chose ceramics and creative crafts. She explains her reason why she chose these electives, “I chose ceramics and creative crafts because I like art.” Brittney Miller, a freshman, said, “I chose intro to production and theater arts.” Freshman Elizabeth Bryant explains her reasons why she chose her electives, “I chose theater arts and family life because I love acting and singing. I chose family life because I want to be able to prepare for the future and have a family.”

Some students chose these electives because they want to prepare for the future. Most of them only did that specific elective because they like. Most even chose those electives because they are interested in them and they will help them out in life. The students can carry out these electives and use what they learned and apply them later on in their lives.
