Senior Tagan Lehr wins 2014-2015 school year homecoming queen!

Homecoming- for Tagan Lehr (Senior), things altered for her after being nominated and then crowned as homecoming queen for this year. Lehr the science and math loving student, loves meeting new people and playing sports here at YS. She is a member of the field hockey team along with a being a member of the track team. Lehr is so grateful for her family and their support. Being crowned as homecoming queen only made it better. Lehr recalls her emotions.

Lehr’s initial thought to the nomination was this; “ I smiled and laughed because I was sitting next to my friend, Colleen, and she and some of my other friends were convinced that I would be on the homecoming court.”

When asked if any part of this process was nerve racking, Lehr simply replied, “The girls on the homecoming court are able to pick certain questions they think will be funny, and when I saw the question “Team Edward vs. Team Jacob” I instantly thought of a funny answer.” This was a good choice for a question, and it was easy for everyone to relate to what Lehr was talking about.

Lehr gives advice for girls with the same hopes of one day becoming the homecoming queen of their class, she said, “Winning queen is nice, but it is not everything! Senior year is about enjoying your last moments of high school, and there is so much more to do than just being on homecoming court or being the homecoming queen!” Take her advice ladies, after all Lehr thinks, “ … anyone who wins this title should be a kind, selfless, and humble person who is recognized by her peers for her kindness and not by how many “friends” she has.”

So what is this big deal about the homecoming court being chosen based off of popularity? Is it true or do people misunderstand the system and how things really work? Lehr has an easy answer for that one, “I think people are mistaken when they think it is a popularity contest, because I do not consider myself one of the “popular” girls. You just have to be a likeable person that people want to vote for.”

When asked about panicky moments throughout the process, Lehr wasn’t too worried or concerned about any of it. She doesn’t worry about any of that, “I never panicked or feared because I just stayed true to myself. By this point in highschool, I realized that I just have to be myself and not worry about other people’s opinion’s. But for anyone that panics, just take a deep breath because life goes on!”

Having fun during the last year of high school is important. Lehr knows the stress of it all can be overwhelming but she doesn’t let this accomplishment change her as a person, she continues to be herself and that is something that she will keep up with.
