YSEF Thanks Celebration Sponsors

On April 21, York Suburban parents, alumni, teachers, administrators and supporters gathered at Heritage Hills Golf Resort to celebrate the innovative, creative and excellent learning opportunities that were funded by the York Suburban Education Foundation ( YSEF ) for the 2017-2018 school year.

Through sponsorships, ticket sales, the silent auction and general contributions, the YS community raised over $33,000! The money raised will support innovative programs that enhance the educational experience and foster continued academic excellence for district students.

The generous support from YSEF’s annual event sponsors, silent auction item contributors, and individual donors fuels more innovative opportunities for YS students.

*Sponsors and silent auction contributors are listed on YSEF’s website at ysef.org

Kindergarten Registration Support

York Suburban School District uses an online, electronic registration process (click to view) which requires a computer, internet, and the ability to scan documents. In order to provide support and service to our new registrants, we are offering the times listed above to support this process. These are NOT mandatory to attend. If you need technical support, please plan on attending one of these offerings. If you are able to register independent of support, you would not be expected to attend. We will have the necessary technology and support set-up in the office area of both buildings.  You do not need to register in the building your child will attend. Your child does not need to attend this registration session.

Junior Achievement Prepares Students at Yorkshire Elementary

Junior Achievement volunteers help young students understand the world around them, from what it takes to be a good family member to being a good citizen in the community. Using hands-on activities relevant to student interests and lifestyles, Junior Achievement lessons enrich the social studies classroom curriculum.

For first graders,  Junior Achievement’s “Our Families” explains how family members’ jobs and businesses contribute to the well-being of the family and community. The program introduces the concept of needs and wants and explores the ways families plan for and acquire goods and services. Students analyzed their own skills to determine ways they can support their families.

For second graders, the Junior Achievement “Our Community Program” uses posters and games to offer practical information about businesses and the many jobs those businesses offer in a community. Students explored production methods through a simulation game and also learned about taxes, decision making, and how money flows in an economy.

Family Reading Night at Yorkshire

Reading specialists, Mrs. Amy Bartlett and Mrs. Kelly Gulley, planned a Reading Make and Take at Yorkshire Elementary School. During the interactive sessions, students and parents rotated through four stations that focused on essential early reading skills. They created and then played games to practice their phonemic awareness, phonics, and comprehension skills. Students also improved their fluency by repeated readings of passages and poems. These young readers left Yorkshire with all of their materials and some new books for continued practice at home which is key to their reading success.
