Yorkshire Elementary Hosts Arts Night

Submitted by Kathy Pavoncello

Each year Yorkshire proudly showcases the arts in our building. Our budding artists proudly showed off their creations throughout the building. Art teacher, Mrs. Susan Mellinger, taught them about the works of French Impressionist painter Claude Monet. Some of their artwork exemplified the soft, colorful influences of his work.

In addition, students  performed practiced songs for parents and teachers, led by Mrs. Susan Wolschleger. This year marked Mrs. Wolschleger’s final performances, as she has retired after nearly 17 years in the district. Mrs. Wolschleger has taught in several buildings within the York Suburban School District, but she has spent the last few years dividing her time between East York and Yorkshire Elementary Schools. We will miss her very much, but she is still hoping to stay involved by providing accompaniment during concerts and musical performances as needed.  She left quite a legacy over the years, giving young students a musical “bug” that grew throughout their school careers.

We have been very fortunate to have Mrs. Mellinger and Mrs. Wolschleger to share their love of music and art with children at such a young age!
