Preparing for the Solar Eclipse

Submitted by Cheryl Johnson

Were you aware that on Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun?  Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights – a total solar eclipse.   This will be the fourth day of the school year for YS students!  Valley View and Yorkshire elementary schools wanted to prepare their early learners in advance! During the month of May, grade levels took two hours of instructional time to cycle students though many stations to provide important background knowledge for understanding an eclipse.  Students learned about the sun, the moon, shadows, and the difference between a solar and lunar eclipse.  A special thank you to our science curriculum representatives for creating many creative and exciting activities to engage our young learners.  Look for more information about ECLIPSE day in the August PRIDE!
