Envirothon Teams Show Knowledge and Spirit

 

Three groups from York Suburban elementary schools participated in this year’s York County Envirothon Competition. The competition tested students’ knowledge in the areas of wildlife, forestry, aquatics, and current issues in conservation.

East York Elementary

East York’s Daring Dragonflies, placed 12th out of 57 teams and received a second place ribbon in forestry at its first York County Envirothon competition. The fifth grade team members included Nicole Berkey, Ioanna Harmantzis, Kyra Hughley, Anthony Khuc, Christina Neddoff, and Ayush Tripathi. The Envirothon Club consisting of 16 members met after school each Monday from January to May.

 

Indian Rock Elementary

Both Indian Rock teams did extremely well at the Envirothon competition. For the second time, the Road Runners had both teams place in the top ten!  The results are below:

Awesome Opossums

  • 4th place overall
  • 2nd in Forestry
  • 7th in Aquatics
  • 14th in Wildlife

Harenadoes

  • 6th place overall
  • 5th place in Aquatics
  • 7th place in Wildlife
