Rooting for Spring Vegetables!

Submitted by Helen Heidler, Whitsons Director of Food Services

York Suburban recently held a Welcome to Spring vegetable display competition – and the competition was fierce! The high school assembled a rock band, the middle school a bunny garden (complete with a Whitsons wheelbarrow), and Indian Rock Elementary also created a garden featuring cauliflower sheep grazing on green coconut. East York Elementary was “school mascot creative” with a dragon and a fooditude vegetable train. Yorkshire Elementary devised a beautiful vegetable garden, and Valley View Elementary engineered a vegetable train rolling along a track. The creativity was amazing!

Chefs John Koutras and Sean Arnold judged the competition. The winning school will receive an outdoor BBQ for their students and a coveted Bunny Trophy!

York Suburban High School was ultimately awarded the distinction: Winner of the First Annual Vegetable Competition.  All schools did such a fantastic job and the students loved the displays.
