Mini-THON – A Proud Tradition

Submitted by Steve Whiteley, Student Council Advisor

For the fourth year in a row, York Suburban High School students stayed on their feet all night and raised a record $70,820.17 for Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Seniors Georgia DuMars and Emily Hamberger oversaw seven committee captains and dozens of committee members to organize Mini-THONⓇ 2017, attended by over 450 students and 50 parent and teacher volunteers. In four years the students have raised over $200,000 to provide funds for research in pediatric cancer and help families with expenses not covered by insurance. Partnering with Penn State’s THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, Mini-THONs raised over 5.5 million dollars last year. Area businesses are encouraged to become Mini-THON sponsors for 2018. A Four Diamonds Festival and Color Clash will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Check out the district website for more information in late March.
