Teachers Engage in Professional Development

Submitted by Dr. Patricia Maloney

The York Suburban School District had a great day of professional development that was filled with exciting learning opportunities for staff. One of the district initiatives is student engagement.  Keeping pace with that initiative, the high school staff discussed student engagement through brain-based-instruction.

In addition to personalized professional development, the middle school staff focused on student engagement through relevance, relationships and expertise. The staff collaboration was focused on personalizing activities to accommodate individual student needs, interests and abilities to maximize student engagement investment in learning. Elementary staff also focused on personalizing activities with an emphasis on English Language Arts and curricular alignment to the PA Core Standards as well as enhancing their use of technology integration.  Teachers collaborated on skills and strategies to assist their students. The title of the ELA program was Sharing the love for our students……giving our students the tools they need to survive today’s academic world together.
