Submitted by Mrs. Karen Campbell

On Saturday, January 27, 2018, eighth graders in Mrs. Karen Campbell’s class competed at the regional Future City Competition held at the Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg. This year’s challenge was to identify an age-related problem that exists in today’s urban environment and engineer two innovative solutions that allow the future city’s senior citizens to be as active, independent, and engaged as possible.

Students were responsible for five deliverables: Project Plan, Virtual City (using SimCity software), City Essay, City Model, and Presentation. Twenty-four schools from south central Pennsylvania competed. York Suburban earned the special award “Best City Layout” given by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

A special thank you to Mr. Gregory Andricos for serving as our team mentor.
