Mrs. Guyer’s and Mrs. Crumbling’s fifth grade scientists at Indian Rock Elementary took a field trip to the All-Purpose Room to learn about ocean tides. Taylor Toomey, dressed appropriately in a lunar tie-dyed jacket, orbited “Earth” while the students mimicked the tidal bulges of the ocean. After simulating high tides, low tides, spring tides, and neap tides, the students used a plastic cup with water to learn about acceleration, gravity, and centrifugal force.
