On Thursday, January 11, East York Elementary held a Knight of Excellence. The fun-filled evening started with a spaghetti dinner prepared by the staff of Whitsons School Nutrition, our district food service provider. Families were then invited to walk the halls to view their student’s work. Later in the evening, Mrs. Stover announced that East York is embarking on a special project: an all-school book club called One School, One Book. Every student has received a copy of the same book – Tony DiTerlizzi’s Kenny & the Dragon – to read at home with family members over the next few weeks! One School, One Book uniquely unites children of all grade levels in reading or listening to their parents read the same book. With this program, East York aims to build a Community of Readers at our school! Everyone – students, parents, teachers, even administrative staff will be enjoying the story together!
The evening concluded with some fun family activities – coloring, making bookmarks, pin the tail on the dragon, and a station for students to predict what may happen in the book!
