Fall Sports Round Up

Submitted by Matt Marshall, Athletic Director

The fall sports season is off to a great start as we have fantastic numbers for participation again! Over 30% of the York Suburban students are taking part in some type of fall athletic program.  We thank the community and staff for their continuous support of our YS student athletes as they continue to make us #YSProud.

York Suburban Cheerleaders shined at the camps they attended this summer. The varsity and junior varsity squads exhibit great teamwork and excel at supporting our teams.  Our cheerleaders are also busy training and excited for future competitions.

Girls Volleyball is off to a promising start with a record of 4-0. The girls are building on last year’s successful season that culminated with a trip to the state competition.  In recent rankings, the team is currently holding down the number 6 spot in the state! Improving upon the success on the court,  our athletes, coaches, and volunteers raised $5,766.75 and donated 728 items to Food for Thought at the Eighth Annual Blackout on September 5. Thanks to all who committed their time and the generosity of those who donated to help this great cause! #YSProud

YS Golf  continues to improve and are currently in a tight battle for second place in the division. As a team and as individuals, our golfers have demonstrated great improvement throughout the past year and this season. Good luck for the remainder of the season!

YS Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams  have established themselves as elite programs and are looking to continue the success.  Both the boys and girls are off to the a great start! The boys are currently at 6-0 and have looked very strong in competition. The girls are 5-1 and with the only loss at the hands of a strong Dallastown Cross Country team. The team is committed to reaching the goals they set in the off-season, and we look forward to watching them achieve those goals!

Girls Tennis has great participation this year! The girls work very well together across all skills levels and have battled through a difficult opening schedule. Watch  for a promising finish as the team continues to improve on each week.  Best of luck, girls!

The Football Team is coming off back to back Division II Championships, and  looks poised  to continue its success. With a young but talented roster led by experienced seniors, the team expects to continually improve through the course of the season. With a current win-loss record of  0-2 after facing two difficult non-league opponents, the team hopes to continue the previous two seasons’ improvement history and get back on track with a strong finish!

The Boys Soccer Team has experienced some extremely close games this season, exemplified by a recent contest ending in a 1-1 double overtime tie against previously undefeated Eastern York. With a mix of many underclassmen and experienced upperclassmen the team continues to gel and play some of their best soccer. We look forward to seeing a strong second half of the season!

Girls Soccer have a young roster but have been paced by some great senior leadership and contributions from many! The team currently sports a record of 3-1-1 and hopes to repeat as participants in the league playoffs this season.

The Field Hockey Team shows great improvement at both the junior high and high school levels this season! Varsity is currently 2-1, with strong scrimmage performances.  It is great to see the hard work of our coaches and athletes paying off! Best of luck for the remainder of the season!
