Something Old, Something New at East York Elementary

Kathy Pavoncello is shown with one of the motivational quotes she is painting on the walls of East York Elementary School.

Students will see something old and something new when East York Elementary School opens for the new school year.

The “old” is the carpeting in the hallways of the original building has been removed and the 1955 terrazzo flooring has been uncovered and restored to its shine.  Bill Boll, Assistant Director of Facilities for the York Suburban School District, says that carpeting has been in place for almost 30 years.  “The floors are beautiful,” he said.  “They were built to last.”

The “new” is a series of motivational quotes and murals painted on the interior walls by Kathy Pavoncello.  A Library Aide at the York Suburban Middle School, art is family tradition.  Several years ago, Kathy’s mother, Judy Everett, painted the murals on the interior walls of Valley View Elementary School.  Kathy painted the mural quotes at the middle school.  Judy Everett is the guidance office secretary at the middle school.

The Pavoncellos are a York Suburban family:  Kathy and her husband, John, are both 1987 graduates of York Suburban High School; one child was in the Class of 2011, another in the Class of 2012, and a third will be in 10th grade.
